The Network Settings dialog allows you to configure how AstraSync connects to your email server.

We recommend you use the Detect Network button to automatically configure your network connection parameters. However you can manually choose from the following connection methods:

  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server(BES) - Requires a BES data plan from your carrier.
  • BlackBerry Internet Service(BIS) - Requires a BIS data plan from your carrier.
  • Wireless Access Protocol(WAP) - Generic mobile data connection method.
  • TCP/IP - Direct TCP/IP connections to your server. May require a Access Point specific to your carrier to be defined on your device.

If your device has Wi-Fi support you can select which type of connection (Wi-Fi / mobile network) you would prefer AstraSync to use. Options are:

  • Wi-Fi Only - AstraSync will only connect using Wi-Fi. Syncing will not occur when you are not connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  • Wi-Fi Preferred - AstraSync will try to sync using a Wi-Fi connection. If a connection is not available, it will use the mobile data connection until it detects that a Wi-Fi network is once again available.
  • Mobile Network Preferred - AstraSync will try to sync using the cellular data connection. If a connection is not available, it will try to use a Wi-Fi network if one is connected. Once the connection to the mobile data network is restored it will resume syncing using that connection.
  • Mobile Network Only - AstraSync will only connect using the cellular data connection. If one is not available (out of network coverage) no sync will occur.
